What is Youth Leadership?
Our Pasifika youth mental health advisors are proud to present the Tupuluga mo le Lumana’i leadership programme for year 7 and 8 Pasifika students. This youth leadership programme has been designed to support the journey of our young leaders, during their transition from intermediate to high school.
How does it work?
The 8-week course consists of a series of school visits from our dedicated Youth Advisors, and includes a wide range of individual and group exercises to develop students’ key abilities in:
Cultural competency
Long-term character development
Community connection
Sina Latu
PACIFIC KAIĀRAHI - MANA AKE
Sina provides guidance to kaimahi and kaiārahi on serving Pacific students. She explores programmes and resources, aimed at improving mental health, well-being, and educational engagement among Pacific learners and their families.
Hezron Taulapapa
Pasifika Youth Mental Health Advisor
Hezron has worked in kura with all types of ākonga, from the early childhood system to tertiary level. He is a strong believer in the power of positive thought, “It’s not what you achieve, but what you overcome” is his mantra.
MATAIÁ Vaofusi Salatielu Tiatia
Team Lead: YOUTH, NAVIGATION & RURAL SERVICES
Vaofusi has worked in the youth sector for 30+ years, with his work taking him from Auckland to Porirua, and now to Ōtautahi. Vaofusi applies the extensive knowledge and experience he has gained over time to serving our Pasifika community.
